Hope Behind the Wall is an inmate pen pal service that connects incarcerated individuals with compassionate people on the outside. Our mission is to foster hope, friendship, and rehabilitation through meaningful correspondence.

Who can become a pen pal?


Anyone over the age of 18 with a kind heart and a willingness to write consistently can become a pen pal. We welcome people from all walks of life who believe in second chances and human connection.

How do I get started?


Simply sign up on our website, choose a subscription plan, and browse inmate profiles. Once you find someone you'd like to write to, we’ll provide their mailing information and tips for your first letter.

Can I send photos or gifts?


Photos are usually welcome, but gifts are restricted. Each facility has its own rules. We provide guidelines based on the inmate’s location to help you stay compliant.

Is there a cost to join?


Yes, we offer affordable subscription plans to help maintain the platform, verify profiles, and support our outreach efforts. Your subscription helps us keep the service safe and sustainable.

Can I return books or magazines I ordered through Hope Behind the Wall?


Yes, we accept returns for eligible items within 14 days of delivery, provided they are unused and in original condition. Please contact our support team before sending anything back.

What items are eligible for return?

You may return:

  • Books or magazines that arrived damaged or defective.
  • Incorrect items (e.g., wrong title or issue).
  • Duplicate shipments due to system error.

Items not eligible for return include:

  • Used or marked-up materials.
  • Items sent directly to correctional facilities.
  • Clearance or final-sale items.
How do I start a return?

Email us at hopeservices314@gmail.com with:

  • Your order number.
  • A brief description of the issue.
  • Photos (if applicable).

We’ll respond within 2 business days with next steps.

What if the item was sent directly to an inmate?


Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns or issue refunds for items shipped directly to correctional facilities unless the item was undeliverable and returned to us by the facility.

Who pays for return shipping?


If the return is due to our error (wrong item, damaged goods), we’ll cover the shipping cost. For all other returns, the customer is responsible for return postage.
